Edea Lee

Edea, though often brash and snappy, has also been raised up in a noble lifestyle. Under the tutelage of her sword instructor, Edea has learned the way and discipline of the blade. Like tempered steel, these values have been forged inside of her head and mind, and it shows during the many different turning points in the game’s plot. Her patience is shown in the numerous times where the party tries to enact a plan. While others would instantly leap into the fray, Edea is the first to speak of planning, and she helps to guide the other party members into acting with precision rather than taking the fast or hastened strike. When trying to gain more knowledge of the recent string of kidnappings in Florem, Edea helps to lead the party into a plan which helps them locate and capture the nefarious villain, by dressing up as one of Florem's young blossoms and putting herself out there to be captured. This also shows a level of selflessness, showcasing that Edea is willing to sacrifice her own safety if it means helping those who are victim to her Father's army. From her training, she has also learned the value of life. In the case of the fires set by the Fire Mage Crowe, Edea decides to stand beside Agnes and Tiz who are in support of innocent lives being spared, despite having to work under the command of one of her Father’s men. Edea resolves within herself that the life she knew in Eternia was but one perspective, and that war and fighting only bring grief; that weapons may give peace, but that they also take lives in the process.

Edea also has a childish side. While she can be sometimes serious and rather bratty, as a result of being raised under the King of Eternia, she has a knack of delighting in treats and sweets as if she were a very child-like girl. Once again, in Florem, Edea becomes distracted from their main goal of helping to save the Crystals of the world by exploring the small cities many cafes. It detracts her allies some what as her single-minded goal of sampling the numerous desserts and confectionaries that have been spoken of the world over are the only thing she can focus on. This instance in the game shows that while Edea can remain strict and focused, it also shows that she has a weakness for simple things, and that despite appearances and demeanor, she holds a great level of innocence that has yet to be broken by a life of battle and war.

Some might consider Edea a “Daddy’s girl”, given how often she speaks of her Father during the course of the game. There are numerous times leading up to the party’s arrival in Eternia where Edea speaks of her relationship with her Father as being both “complicated” and “special”. The King holds a special place in her heart. As being the only child of the King, and being born a woman raised to be more like a Prince than a Princess, she holds some qualities that make her more abrasive than the typical social mold of a woman. She spent most of her life in training to be a swordsman, under the ruling of her Father, so she carries with her a great deal of weight and stress as trying to be a good enough soldier to be recognized and praised by her Father. In this same respect, Edea also carries herself like a warrior; never one to show her true feelings until those she allows in are able to see who she really is. During the course of the game, Edea begins to shed her exterior more and more as she gets closer with Tiz, Agnes, and especially Ringabel. After they vanquish the Red Mage DeRosa, Edea’s close brush with assault leaves her vulnerable and afraid, making her spill her worries and grievances to the group, finding solace in Ringabel as he tries to console her from the result of the ordeal. This moment in time where she realizes she isn’t the strong soldier she assumed herself to be gives evidence that she isn’t a stone-cold, emotionless fighter, but a blood and flesh human who struggles to prove herself and rise above expectations. She is afraid of failure, and in that single moment of being a victim, she realizes that the fight she’s put upon herself cannot be won alone, but only by the help of her friends is she able to truly be as strong as she believes herself to truly be.

Edea also has an affinity for being bossy. During her time with Tiz and Ringabel, she’s often times grabbed their money and walked away with it, proclaiming, “Give me your money! I’m off to buy myself something nice!”, and return with a new closet’s worth of an assortment of clothing. This shows that she is often greedy, and while she cares for her friends, has no qualms in exploiting them if it means she gets some fun out of it.

Edea is unfortunately quick to anger and she is extremely passionate in defending those who have been subject to her own countrymen's vile actions. This shows in how quick she is to turn to aide Agnes with her goal, even if she still holds some level of distrust against the Priestess and Tiz. She has an unusual sense of cooking, which is shown during an instance where she is pressured by the Great Sage to cook. She made a meal for him that was so vile that according to others in the game that it was “given to a dog by the sage, but the dog gave it to a cat, then the cat proceeded to give it to a crow.” This shows a level of stubbornness in her in that, regardless of how people receive her cooking, she still attempts to prepare food even after people tell her that she is unable to do so.
